The film is inspired by the research of Peter Bance, the historian who wrote about Princess Sophia Duleep, one of the key leaders of the suffragette movement in the U.K., the Princess of Punjab, granddaughter of Maharajah Ranjit Singh and the goddaughter of Queen Victoria. The film will tell the story of two British Punjabi women living in the U.K., a century apart. While Sophia’s story is rooted in history, the second story is a fictional tale of Mehak Kaur an educated, married immigrant woman living in 1990’s Southall.

Set in Oslo 1945, Elsa the film explores national identity, heroism, vengeance, and sexual freedom.

Malik and Elsa play a game of riddles. The beginning of their unique relationship, Elsa is lost and punished to treat Malik for seven consecutive days. Those seven days are able to unite Malik and Elsa.

In a large building in a Parisian district, Elsa lives alone. Her young neighbor Alice hears her playing the piano at home and enjoys it. Elsa suggests that she learn the piano and offers to play it at home, when she is not there. Alice thus gets into the habit of living in Elsa's apartment several times a week.
